DAY 1 - BLUE LAGOON Arrive in the morning in Reykjavik at Keflavik Airport where you’ll be met by Steve Zikman and your guide. From there, we’ll head off to the famous Blue Lagoon where we’ll enjoy a welcome breakfast before we put on our swimsuits and go bathing. Later, we leave for Reykjavik traveling past the old lava flows that dominate the Reykjanes peninsula. Check in at your hotel. The afternoon will be free to do what you please. For dinner, we’ll sample some Icelandic cuisine at a local restaurant.

DAY 2 - GOLDEN CIRCLE Today's excursion includes many of the scenic natural wonders for which Iceland is renowned. Drive over the highland plateau of Hellisheiði, passing the geothermal town of Hveragerði until we reach the picturesque Kerið, a lake-filled extinct volcanic crater. Continue on to Skálholt, the site of an ancient bishopric, and for centuries Iceland's main cultural center. Following this, explore the extraordinary hot spring area of Geyser riddled with multicolored pools of water and mud. Strokkur, the Great Geysir's little brother, is spouting to a height of about 25 meters and erupts at 5-7 minute intervals. After the lunch break continue on to the mighty Gullfoss (the Golden Waterfall), perhaps the most beautiful in the country. When the sun is shining you're likely to see a rainbow through the massive spray that forms over the double cascade. Then visit Thingvellir National Park, the country's most sacred site. Home of the old Viking parliament Alþingi, Thingvellir is a place of breathtaking natural beauty, set on a vast plain flanked by large fissures right on Iceland's largest lake, Thingvallavatn. In the evening, we’ll head back to Reykjavik to spend the night.

DAY 3 - NORTH ICELAND Today, we’ll fly to the capital of north Iceland, Akureyri. After an informative tour of the town, we’ll go to the Skagafjordur valley where we’ll embark on a thrilling river-rafting adventure. Those who are more adventurous will be given the option to go on a tour of the West Glacial River. Enjoy the white-water action and the grand landscapes of the Vesturdalur valley. This trip takes about 4-5 hours so be prepared for a long day. After the river-rafting, we’ll drive back to Akureyri where we’ll eat and spend the night.

DAY 4 - HUSAVIK From Akureyri, we start our day at Goðafoss ("waterfall of the gods") into which it is said a nearby chieftain threw his statues of the pagan gods to prove his loyalty to the new Christian god. The picturesque fishing village of Húsavík will be our next stop with its beautiful wooden church built at the beginning of the 20th century. From the Husavik harbour, we’ll set out on a whale-watching cruise to explore the wildlife of the Skjalfandi Bay. Later, we’ll gaze and smile at the natural wonders to be found at the world's only Phallological Museum. Then, we’ll go to Skútustaðir for a short walk around the region's numerous craters, the amazing rock formations at Dimmuborgir ("Dark Cities"), Hverfjall's 2500 year-old lunar-like crater, and the colorful hill at Námaskarð with its famous boiling gray mud pots. At the end of our journey around Lake Myvatn, we'll visit the natural baths. Later on in the evening, we’ll check in to our hotel in Myvatn and enjoy dinner.

DAY 5 - MELRAKKASLETTA-LANGANES Today, we’ll drive along the Tjörnes Peninsula, toward the Arctic Circle. We’ll continue through deserted areas exploring the Melrakkasletta plains and stopping in the villages of Kopasker and Raufarhofn. We proceed to Thistilfjordur fjord making our way to the Langanes peninsula. On our way back to Myvatn, we’ll stop in Ásbyrgi, a puzzling place said to be a hoof print of the eight-legged horse of the ancient God Óðin. Ásbyrgi is part of Jökulsárgljúfur National Park. Then, we’ll venture through barren and deserted landscape to visit the spectacular Dettifoss (the falling waterfall). Leaving Dettifoss, we travel east past exquisite mountain ranges, arriving late in the afternoon back in Myvatn where we’ll eat and spend the night.

DAY 6 - SEYDISFJORDUR - EGILSTADIR After breakfast, our day begins with a stop at Möðrudalur, a year-round residence at the highest altitude in Iceland, 469m above sea level. Our travels carry on through more fascinating landscape, following the glacial Jökuldalur Valley and the fertile region of Fljótsdalshérað. Over a mountain road, we reach a narrow fjord called Seyðisfjörður. We’ll drive down to the charming village of the same name where we’ll stop to enjoy the spectacular view and the numerous waterfalls. From the harbor in Seyðisfjörður, we’ll head out for some sea kayaking. After the day’s activities have come to an end, we’ll drive to Egilstadir to spend the night.

DAY 7 - EAST FJORDS - HOFN In the morning, we’ll leave Fljótsdalshérað and head to the south of Iceland, passing through green valleys and following the coast line into Berufjörður. We’ll arrive in the small fishing village Djúpivogur for a short visit just before lunchtime. Then, we’ll continue along the coastline where the flat sandy plains of the south mix with the looming mountains and the expansive valleys. Our journey will take us to Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe, covering about 8% of Iceland. If weather permits, we’ll enjoy a view of the many glacier tongues descending from the main ice cap--an amazing contrast to the green fertile areas we’ll have driven through. In the evening, we’ll proceed to the town of Hofn for dinner and our overnight accommodations.

DAY 8 - SKAFTAFELL - JÖKULSÁRLÓN - VÍK Following a relaxing breakfast, we head out on a short trip to the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, and embark on an optional boat tour around the floating icebergs of the lagoon. After the boat trip, we’ll continue our journey along the south coast of Vatnajökull. Along the way, we’ll enjoy an awe-inspiring view of Iceland's highest peak. Next, we make our way to Skaftafell National Park. The park offers dramatic contrasts in landscape: glaciers, moors, mountains, birch forest, glacial rivers and brooks. From there, we drive to Núpsstaður to visit a quaint little farm tucked under high cliffs. Our journey continues through the lava fields of Eldhraun to witness the one-of-a-kind landscape that resulted from a yearlong eruption in 1783. Passing the small village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, we continue on through the black sands of Mýrdalssandur before arriving in the village of Vík to spend the night.

DAY 9 - SOUTH COAST - REYKJAVIK After breakfast, we proceed to Skógar, a tiny village with a popular Folk Museum that has a turf house in the garden. Then, we travel to the Skógar waterfall which falls gracefully 60 meters down the green mountain. Our last stop is at another waterfall called Seljalandsfoss where we’ll enjoy the very unique experience of walking behind it. We end our day in back in Reykjavík, where we spend the night.

DAY 10 - REYKJAVIK Today is Iceland's National Independence Day and you are free to explore the city on your own. Join the locals in their traditional celebrations, kick back and simply enjoy the city, the festivities, and the people. Tonight, we’ll indulge in a farewell dinner at one of Reykjavik's finest restaurants..

DAY 11 - DEPART On this, your last day, sleep in and enjoy the morning at your leisure before your transfer in the early afternoon to the airport for your flight back home.
